5 fitness myths you still think true… Even though there has been a lot of research and studies on fitness, people still believe outright lies. You may think that you have nutrition figured out, and you may be tempted to do the same thing that many others are doing, but may not see results. If you do not see results, it’s probably because you are believing the wrong thing. The following are some of the top fitness myths that you may think are true, but have been proven wrong time and time again. You may be surprised by how many people still think these are true, but in fact, are truly false.
Doing Cardio Will Keep You Healthy
One of the biggest fitness myths that people think about is in regards to cardio. You may love running on a treadmill, or perhaps sticking to an exercise bike, and yes you can see results. But over time, if you just stick to “one” thing, you are going to end up with joint problems, and lackluster issues. Your body will adjust to the exercise that you do, and eventually will not reduce your weight or manage anything. In fact, you may think that you’re “fit”, but in reality, your fitness goals may stall. Doing cardio is good, but you also need to work with weight lifting and interval training.
Lifting Alone Is Better Than Cardio
Just like doing cardio alone is not a good plan for a long-term fitness goal, so is lifting alone. There’s nothing wrong with either solution, but if you’re going to just lift, you will lack the cardiovascular health you need to meet your fitness goals. You need balance. The body requires balance, and that’s where cardio and lifting come into play. You need both options to help you get the weight loss goal you want, and the fitness goal you need for longevity. Remember, balance is everything when it comes to good health, and doing both of these things will pay off dividends in time.
Crunches Will Give You Six Pack Abs
Crunches, sit ups, and other ab workouts are great, but they won’t give you six pack abs. They may be the most iconic abdominal exercise around, but doing crunches is not actually the best way to slim your midsection. Deep below the six-pack lies a thick, corset-like strap of muscle that goes all the way around the waist, from back to front. This transversus abdominis muscle, also known as the core, is the one that is responsible for flattening the tummy, and yet few of us ever pay it any attention!
There’s a few factors to consider about this exercise. First, you cannot spot train muscle, second you may not get a six pack, and lastly, genetics play a major role. There are some professional athletes that are amazing, and yet they do not have the definition that you would expect. Six pack abs are a combination of exercises, diet, supplements, and genetics.
Sweat Means You’re Doing Something Right

Many people talk about breaking a sweat as it is an indication for working out. If you’re not sweating, you aren’t getting results, right? The truth of the matter is that your sweat is a matter of heat index in the body. Your body uses sweat as a way to cool down, not to indicate that you’re working out hard. You can be asleep and sweat. You could be sitting in a lounge chair, sweating, because the body is hot. Sweat doesn’t indicate that you’re doing something right or wrong. It’s just a matter of your body’s heat index, and trying to cool yourself down.
No Pain, No Gain
There are some people that will tell you that you need to feel pain in order to get results. No. Do not believe this at all. In fact, if you’re getting a great deal of pain when you’re working out, something is wrong. Pain during your workout is not good, and even afterwards, could be a sign of injury. Injuries are real, and muscle strain is real as well. There’s a big difference between being sore after a workout and pain during your workout. Pain doesn’t mean you’re doing something right, it can be your body is telling you to rest or stop what you’re doing. Pain doesn’t mean gain, don’t believe that, you could hurt yourself further.
Getting Big Muscles Means Strength
Moving forward, you may be taking fitness and weight loss supplements to get lean. Once you’re lean, you may want to get bigger muscle mass. There’s nothing wrong with mass, but if you believe that getting bigger means you’re getting stronger, you are wrong. Being strong doesn’t mean that you’re looking like a body builder. Body building and strength training are completely different fitness disciplines. Just because you put on weight, muscle wise, doesn’t mean that you’re stronger.
At the end of the day, these myths are important to understand. They can help you move forward with your fitness goals, and recognize issues as they come up. Erase these, and you’ll be able to achieve your weight loss goals over time.
